Introductions

Hey new friends!

Thought I'd introduce myself a bit and tell my money story.

My name is Melissa and I'm messy...simply put. I'm not unhygienic but I'm definitely cluttered but the one place where I've had my sh*t together has been my finances. I left college with a degree in Stage Management, almost 50k of debt and a suitcase full of hopes and dreams. I was incredibly lucky to have a full time job in my field of entertainment and I saved every ounce of overtime I could get to my savings while paying the minimums on my loans. When I had a savings of 10,000 I decided to move from sunny Southern California to NYC, aka, Theatre Mecca. I was hustling hard when about 3 months after my move, I got a call to join a major cruise line. I lived at sea for about 3 years and throughout that time, as a crew member, we had to eat at the "mess" and I was known for some inventive food creations using our very repetitive menu items. Now I live in sunny central Florida, waiting for this virus to pass so I can get back to creating exciting entertainment.

While onboard the ship, I started a debt snowball and by 2018 I was entirely debt free, including a car I had purchased in 2015. Going out to eat has always been such a fun social activity for me that I have rarely cooked but that all changed this March. After cooking a few meals successfully, I ran the numbers and realized I was eating for about 8 or 9 dollars a day, which, in a past life, wasn't enough to cover lunch! Now I'm down a few pounds, eating better and saving my pennies until The Great Pause is over.

What's your money story? Ready to make a mess with me?
