Just the thought of Orange Chicken makes me oddly nostalgic for college where the local Panda Express was open until 4AM for your late night eating pleasure. Note to the readers- there is no need to eat Orange Chicken after midnight nowadays. Anyways, this super easy recipe is a great substitute for Take Out. PS- The price per serving is somewhat inflated due to me assuming that you, like me, didn't have some of these more standard Asian Flavor ingredients. The good news, is the next time you make it, it will be cheaper because your pantry is stocked. Enough rambling...
Cut chicken in roughly 1 inch cubes. Place in large bowl.
Coat with Cornstarch and season with both salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly so that they are covered.
Heat oil in large deep pan. Once the pan is hot, in batches, put chicken in and crisp each side. Basically you just want to lightly brown each side. Don't worry about cooking the chicken, the slow cooker will do that.
Spray inside of Crockpot with cooking spray. As chicken is finished in pan place in Crockpot.
Mix Garlic, Orange Marmalade, Red Pepper Flakes, Soy Sauce, Rice Vinegar and Sesame Oil in bowl. Pour over chicken and stir to coat with sauce
Cook on low for 2-3 hours.
Serve with steamed broccoli over rice. Top with sesame seeds and add green onions for garnish.
You can also make this in an instant pot using the saute function to brown the chicken. Pour out excess oil and cook using slow cooker function just make sure that you stir every so often because the instant pot cooks different than a crock pot.
Let me know how this comes out! Will it replace take out for you?
